Glasgow, Scotland, 17 June 2024

In a powerful show of support, the Indian Council of Scotland and the United Kingdom has unequivocally backed Dhruva Kumar, the Alba Party MP candidate for Glasgow South, who has been subjected to unfair and unjust treatment. Neil Lal, the esteemed Chairman and President of the Indian Council, has emerged as a leading force in UK politics, demonstrating unwavering integrity and a commitment to justice.

Neil Lal, a prominent figure representing the Indian community in the UK, has publicly condemned the recent media attacks on Dhruva Kumar. Lal stated, “After we were informed by Mr. Dhruva Kumar, an first Indian-born MP candidate of the Hindu faith standing for the Alba Party in the Glasgow South constituency, that his Facebook account had been hacked and words altered, we investigated and advised him on safeguarding his personal information.”

Mr Lal expressed deep concern over the irresponsible journalism that has targeted Kumar without verifying the facts. “Several media publications, without contacting Mr. Dhruva Kumar directly, have written against him. This is not only poor journalism but totally unacceptable as it sends the wrong message and stirs up racial hatred against Hindus. This behavior is not only unacceptable but also dangerous as it builds a false picture against someone from the Hindu faith who has done no wrong,” Lal asserted.

Neil Lal’s leadership at the Indian Council of Scotland is characterized by his steadfast adherence to principles of integrity, fairness, neutrality, and transparency. He emphasized, “No matter what one’s political affiliations or beliefs are, it is important to stay neutral and look at the facts. Integrity and fairness, along with neutrality and transparency, are key elements to which I have always adhered under my leadership role at the Indian Council, just as we have done in this investigation.”

Lal’s commitment to justice is further exemplified by his past actions, such as advising Nicola Sturgeon, the then First Minister, against dealing with Sanjeev Gupta, a decision that proved to be correct. “Being unbiased is a key element when one looks into any matter,” Lal noted.

In a related development, the Scottish Greens have been reported to the police for a hate crime following their comments against Dhruva Kumar. Lal did not mince words in his condemnation of their conduct, stating, “The Scottish Greens’ conduct is totally unacceptable, which once again says everything about the Scottish Greens. This is now being investigated by the authorities.”

Lal concluded with a call for common sense and respect for all faiths and cultures. “One must respect all faiths and cultures, and it does not matter if a person is of Indian origin or not, right is right and wrong is wrong. We commend Dhruva Kumar and extend our best wishes to his family in these troubling times.”

Neil Lal’s unwavering support for Dhruva Kumar and his principled stance against injustice highlight his role as a leading figure in UK politics, advocating for fairness and integrity in the face of adversity.
